No Signal? Fix a PS4 HDMI Port with These Three Tips

Sony designed the PlayStation 4 to function as the digital hub of the living room, giving it a wide range of multimedia capabilities. As a result, a PS4 HDMI issue can be a terrible inconvenience. When your PS4 isn't working, you haven't just lost a game console -- you may have also lost your Blu-ray player, your living room stereo and more. Although it isn't always possible to fix PS4 problems without professional assistance, there are several troubleshooting steps that you can perform at home before bringing your console in for repairs.

1. Basic Troubleshooting

If your PS4 isn't displaying a signal on your HDTV, begin by eliminating the HDMI cable and the HDMI port on your HDTV as potential points of failure. Connect the PS4 to your HDTV using a different cable, if one is available. In addition, try connecting the PS4 to a different HDMI port.

2. HDTV Settings

Some PS4 owners have reported HDMI issues when using the PS4 in conjunction with certain settings on their televisions. For example, your HDTV may be compatible with high-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, which helps to deter the unauthorized copying of media. Some PS4 users have resolved HDMI issues by disabling the HDCP feature on their HDTVs. If your HDTV can connect to the Internet to download firmware updates, check to see if an update is available for your model.

3. Faulty HDMI Connector

Some early PS4 units shipped with faulty HDMI ports. If this issue is present, an uneven piece of metal prevents full insertion of an HDMI cable. In some cases, PS4 owners have even damaged their HDMI cables by attempting to force them into these faulty ports. Some people have managed to resolve this issue on their own by gently bending or filing the uneven metal.
